A stolen car crashed through a 7-Eleven store during a chase in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Thursday afternoon.
Bensalem Police tried to stop a vehicle that had been reportedly stolen out of Philadelphia when the driver sped off, investigators said. During the chase, the stolen car struck a police vehicle as well as another vehicle as it continued to travel at a high speed.
The driver of the stolen car then lost control and crashed into the 7-Eleven on 1644 Street Road.
“I saw the car just going with their brakes on just all the way through and straight into 7-Eleven,” Ann Norris, a witness, told NBC10. “It sounded like a bomb went off.”
Police said three people fled after the crash.
“It took less than a half a second for them to go in and then they were out and running,” Norris told NBC10.
Multiple drones helped police find five people who had been inside the stolen vehicle. NBC10 obtained cellphone video showing an officer on top of a person on the ground in the front yard of a home near the 7-Eleven.
“My neighbor said somebody smashed into the 7-Eleven,” Alan Stone, the man who recorded the video, told NBC10. “So, at that time, two people came running by. One guy ran down the street. Another guy was running through the backyard. Some random guy came out of nowhere and tackled him. And that’s when all the cops came flooding out.”
Police said no injuries were reported. They have not yet revealed the identities of the five people they found or any possible charges.
SkyForce10 captured a tow truck removing the car from the badly damaged 7-Eleven around 4 p.m. Crews spent Thursday night cleaning up debris and the store will likely remain closed for several weeks as the repairs continue.
