Commerce party shooting injures multiple people, East Texas A&M release statement

Multiple people were shot after an early morning shooting at a party in Commerce on Saturday.

Commerce Police Department responded to a reported shooting early Saturday morning, at approximately 3:26 AM, at a party located in northeast part of the City and not on the campus of East Texas A&M.

Authorities said the shooting injured multiple people with gunshot wounds. Those injured are receiving medical attention but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

“No additional details regarding the identities or medical conditions of those involved are being released at this time,” police said in a press release.

The incident was isolated and is no longer an active threat to the community.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the involvement of those connected to the incident are under investigation.

The East Texas A&M University Police Department is assisting with the investigation, even though the event did not happen on campus, along with resources from the Texas Rangers.

East Texas A&M University released the following statement regarding the shooting:

“Our hearts are with the students, families, and others affected by the shooting that occurred early this morning in Commerce. We know news like this is deeply concerning for our Lion Family. The incident occurred off campus at a location unaffiliated with the university. The Commerce Police Department is investigating the incident, with University Police providing assistance. The East Texas A&M Counseling Center offers 24/7 crisis counseling for students who need it.”
